PROJECT MANAGEMENT KEY INFORMATION
Project Name: Melanesian Mission Building Restoration Client: Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga Location: Mission Bay Waterfront Project Timeline: Q2 2016 – Q3 2017 Approx value: $2.5m Sector: Retail, Seismic Improvement, Hospitality, Heritage Scope: Restore and seismically strengthen a heritage listed building |
Description of Project:
The owners of the historic Melanesian Mission stone building on the Mission Bay waterfront, Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga, set out to build a high-quality restaurant in the park-like grounds at Mission Bay, Auckland and to restore and seismically strengthen the heritage-listed stone building.
Role Undertaken:
Pragmatix was engaged by the building owner following release of the Resource Consent to manage designers and contractors. This engagement was extended to act for the restaurateur to achieve economies in costs and integration of the fit-out works into the project to provide a turnkey result.
Value added to project:
The contractor was procured in compliance with a transparent public appointment process. Construction entailed managing heritage, archaeological and arborist specialists in compliance with Resource Consent conditions. The strengthening system for the stone building was innovative and allowed minimal intervention into heritage building fabric. Opportunities to enhance the development with a large outdoor retracting canopy were identified and Pragmatix led the team to achieve the Resource Consent within this sensitive environment.
The project attracted considerable interest and we facilitated stakeholder management including two iwi, the local residents association and the Melanesian Mission Trust Board.
