PROJECT MANAGEMENT KEY INFORMATION

Description of Project:
Kokowai means creation, new life, a new way of looking at things. This led to looking at how high-density living could support life and broader community connections. Three key concepts are Tupuranga, Mauri tu and Mahi toi – in essence a place to grow, that’s full of life and has moments of beauty and creative expression.

Stage 1 of the development comprises six separate walk-up and lifted apartment buildings, having a total of 92 apartment units. There is a central shared space created to encourage a place to relax, retreat, foster, gather and build community.

Role Undertaken:
The project is being delivered under a D&C Contract where Pragmatix were the design managers for the Principal’s Requirements and Resource Consent and then project managed the construction phase as well as acting as Engineer to the Contract as per NZS3916.

The project was hampered by the advent of COVID 19 which had impacts on overseas procurement, national procurement and the ability of the Contractor to adequately resource the project. Both parties worked collaboratively to resolve the issues faced and maintain programme as far as possible.

Value added to the Project:
Pragmatix took over the design management and led the design for the Resource Consent phase and development of the Principals Requirements. We ensured that the design met Ngai Tahu’s requirements and was able to be effectively translated to the principal’s Requirements document for inclusion in the D&C Contract.

Our experience in administering D&C contracts meant that we were able to advise Ngai Tahu as well as guide the Contractor through the process as they had not previously worked under the NZS3916 form of contract.
