Approx value: $68m
Sector: Civic, Stadium, D&C
Scope: 12,000 seat capacity, 60m clear span, 21m clear floor-to-roof structure

Description of Project:
The new Arena is a world-class multipurpose 13,000+ capacity venue at the heart of Auckland’s city centre.  It is NZ’s largest indoor area and attracts international artists, sporting events and world famous musicals.  It transfers from theatre modes to large scale gala dinners and banqueting spaces with area for exhibitions and conventions.

This $68m Build-Own-Operate-Transfer project was constructed on Ngati Whatua leasehold land.

Role Undertaken:
Pragmatix was involved throughout the consortium’s tender to Auckland City Council, legal and financial structuring, consultant selection and engagement, briefing and scope determination, through to final completion of the facility including all components and operating systems.

In addition to the bid process and early design required for the Principal’s Requirements, we led the engagement of the D&C Contractor, acted as the Clients Project Manager throughout the design and construction as well as providing an Independent Certifier role for Auckland Council.

Value added to project:
The project was highly complex due to multi-use requirements and limited international benchmarks.

The project was completed on budget to the owner and operator’s expectations. The arena has been operating successfully now for many years and is a cornerstone of Auckland’s entertainment sector.

Personnel:
Martin Lowery – Bid phase and Contractor procurement
Tony Webb – Clients Project Manager
Simon Mrkusic – Independent Certifier

“Pragmatix’s performance has been stellar on this job.”
